Do we need to bag our drywall?
No, bags are not required. If using bags to transport material, please use household garbage bags only.
Can the wallboard have paint, wallpaper or tile on it?
Yes. Our process will remove any coverings when the gypsum and paper are separated. Our paper recyclers deal with small amounts of residual paper.
What do you do with the wallboard we drop off?
Two things. With its patented process, NWGR separates the gypsum core from the paper backing. Both these materials enter separate recycling streams. The gypsum core is taken to a nearby wallboard manufacturing facility for use in new wallboard products. Depending on the plant location the paper backing is sent to various paper recyclers for re-use.
How do you process the wallboard?
Ultimately is it a mechanical process. No chemicals or additives are used in the recycling process.
What do wallboard manufactures do with the recycle product?
Wallboard manufactures blend the recycled product with virgin gypsum to produce wallboard products with a percentage of recycle.
How much of the material you collect goes to the landfill?
Everything we collect is hand sorted and is recycled as much as possible. When it comes to renovation waste, often there are additional materials mixed into loads (clean up fees may apply). Sometimes glass, plastic, nails and other ferrous metals get mixed in. This is all collected, sorted and redistributed to the appropriate recyclers for re-use.
Can I use wallboard in my garden?
Wallboard is not just made of Gypsum. The wallboard we receive at our facility is tainted with paint and other additives. Gypsum as a base fertilizer is great for breaking up clay soils, removing sodium or adding calcium into soils, however we do recommend you purchase gypsum at your local garden center.
Is there a fee to drop drywall off?
Yes, each of our locations have different rates. Please see Our Locations page and select the location closest to you for their specific rates.
